Plant Manager









Job Duties:

  • Organizational Effectiveness

    • Ensuring an effective organization is maintained that is able to achieve company goals and objectives for the business (i.e. Responsible Care, RC-14001, Safety, Environment, Quality, Financial etc.)

    • Maintaining a flexibility organization that can respond quickly to provide coverage for vacation and unexpected short to medium tern absences.

    • Developing succession and personal development plans to prepare personnel for promotion opportunities when they arise throughout the organization.




 

 

  • Leadership and Performance Management

    • Providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to the employees at the Prince George plant.   Motivating employees to work at peak potential and complete goals and objectives efficiently and effectively.

    • Developing a team environment that motivates employees to work at peak potentials and assist in achieving plant and company goals and objectives.

    • Developing realistic, measurable and achievable plant and staff goals.  Providing timely performance feedback, regular evaluations and assistance to the management team to ensure performance measures and goals are met.

    • Maintaining cooperative labour management relations.  Administering the application of the Labour Agreement and participating in contract negotiations (strategy an bargaining).



  • Environment Health and Safety

    • Leading by example to develop a strong health, safety and environmental awareness culture consistent with the ethic of Responsible Care.  A proactive continuous improvement approach with focus on waste and emission reduction, environmental sustainability and injury prevention.

    • Ensuring sound health and safety procedures, practices, education and training programs are developed to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with Work Safe BC Occupational Health and Safety Act.

    • Ensuring the plant operates in compliance that meet or exceed, applicable environmental regulatory and permit requirements and that regulatory reporting is completed in a timely manner.

    • Ensuring effective site emergency response plans are developed, implemented and tested.



  • Production & Engineering

    • Ensuring operating parameters are reviewed on a daily basis to ensure safe, environmental responsible and cost effective operation is maintained.

    • Ensuring a maintenance system is developed and implemented to optimize production reliability, maintenance cost and product quality.

    • Ensuring a Process Safety Management processes are implemented to safeguard the integrity of the operation.

    • Ensuring processes are in place for identifying and implementing process and cost improvement opportunities

    • Ensuring effective education and training programs are developed for the hourly operations and maintenance employees

    • Ensuring technical support and mentoring is available to plant engineers, managers and operations and maintenance employees.

    • Ensuring weekend supervision and technical support coverage is available as required.



  • Customer Service

    • Ensuring a quality system is implemented that includes identification of key process parameters, standard operating procedures, maintenance procedures and laboratory QA/QC protocols.

    • Ensuring customer satisfaction through reliable service (delivery, support and response to concerns)

    • Ensuring plant resources are provided to assist the marketing group in the development of relationships with key purchasing and operating personnel.

    • Ensuring customer audits are conducted on a periodic basis to assist customers in the safe handling and storage of products



  • Community Relations

    • Ensuring professional relationships are developed with key stakeholders

    • Ensuring the plant undertakes outreach activities to promote the benefits of the operation and chemical industry to the local community

    • Developing and implementing plans to recognize the social responsibilities of the plant and company and contribute to the development of the local community



  • Financial

    • Develo ping and justifying annual plant operating and capital budgets.

    • Developing and implementing work flow processes that provide financial and administrative controls that ensure compliance with company policies and procedures (i.e. spending approval levels, contract and purchasing terms, financial reporting etc.)

    • Ensuring plant spending is diligently managed to ensure annual financial cash forl and investment targets are achieved

    • Assisting the VP Manufacturing in business analyses, strategic planning and the developing of operational plans that define and address critical issues for the long term success of the operation.




 

Minimum Position Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Stro ng technical and plant management operations background in the chemical industry preferably with a mechanical or chemical engineering degree and professional standing in the Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia.

  • Minimum 8 - 10 years supervisory experience preferably in a union environment

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.  Strong technical writing skills

  • Committed to continuous improvement of safety, environment, customer service, operations and quality performance

  • Knowledgeable and effective in the use of standard computer software programs and database systems
