Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Benefits Specialist will be responsible for maintaining benefits programs and services, and support many other areas of Human Resources including Staffing and Associate Relations & Leadership Support. The incumbent will not only be responsible for day-to-day issues, but will identify trend issues and prepare and execute plans to resolve underlying causes for concern. Managing the benefits portion of a payroll conversion and benefits renewal will be an initial priority. Once conversions are completed there will be an opportunity to gain generalist experience.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Administration of the benefit plans including (but not limited to) Group Health & Dental, Employee Assistance Program, Short and Long Term Disability, Life and Group Registered Retirement Savings and Deferred Profit Share plans for 1600 employees and multiple employee groups;
- Process all benefit enrolments, changes and terminations as needed;
- Monitor monthly ASO charges;
- Process monthly benefit billings and monthly reconciliation of benefit billings and benefit payroll deductions;
- Work closely with Return to Work Coordinator in the management of short and long term disability cases;
- Educate, recommend and provide answers about benefit programs, initiatives and events to all employees and associates;
- Recommend, develop and obtain approval for updating the company Benefits Plan to ensure cost effectiveness and plan design competitiveness within the labour market;
- Work closely with the HR Manager and consultants ensuring programs are effective and affordable;
- Identify new trends and recommend/implement changes;
- Develop and proactively maintain positive work relationships with all levels of stakeholders;
- Continuously maintain 5S work station and support 5S process improvement as well as continuous improvement of all methods and processes;
- Provide technical and project support to line management and others throughout the organization as required; and
- Generalist HR duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria:
- Post-secondary degree or equivalent (HR preferred) required;
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or CPA designations are assets;
- Experience in benefits, payroll and/or human resources in a manufacturing environment required;
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have exceptional Excel skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with associates at all levels of an organization;
- Demonstrated ability to deal professionally with external suppliers;
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills including benefits education to ESL employees; and
- Ability to deal and resolve conflict and to provide leadership and counsel to supervisors and managers.
