We're looking for a Mechanical Planner with industrial experience who loves variety in their workday. Our client is a leading producer of precious metals and has been operating for over 100 years. Their Thompson, MB location is a mining, milling, smelting, and refining facility that produces more than 100 million pounds of nickel annually. The Planner will provide timely and accurate mechanical planning of requested work in conjunction with the requirements of both operating and maintenance functions. This full-time position is based in Thompson Manitoba, and the main responsibilities are filling in for existing mechanical planners.

Thompson, Manitoba is considered the Hub of the North and is located 739 kilometers north of Winnipeg. Thompson has an excellent transportation system with daily air service, truck delivery, and rail services. The city has over 13,000 residents and all of the services and amenities that would be expected in a larger urban centre. Thompson is unique in that it is set in the ruggedly beautiful Canadian shield, amongst numerous pristine lakes, in the heart of the Boreal Forest and has many recreational activities such as camping, hiking to the Pisew Waterfalls, golfing, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting.


Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: $63,000 - $84,000/yr (includes 5% northern allowance) plus significant personal and company bonuses

Benefits: A comprehensive benefits package is available. Relocation assistance provided. The company will also pay for a few flights to Winnipeg every year to visit your family or make your tropical vacation more affordable.

Requirements: A journeyman and/or a Journeyman Red Seal endorsement. For example, a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright Certificate with Maintenance experience.

Experience: 3 years work experience in one of: Maintenance Supervision, Maintenance Planning, a closely related discipline in a heavy industrial environment, or an appropriate combination of education and experience. Knowledge of codes, schematics and procedure planning required. Ellipse/CMMS preferred.

Responsibilities Include:
- Generate ready to execute planned packages.
- Review the status of work orders to prioritize planning activities for approved work orders within area of responsibility on a daily basis.
- Ensure the identification of resource requirements and readiness for execution prior to the date required for the work to be completed.
- Encourage contribution of planning details from those expected to do the work.
- Incorporate crew input into planning packages for work execution.
- Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful planning of work orders for completion by the date required for the work to be completed.
- Improve the efficiency of the planning process by developing and using standard jobs as templates.
- Ensure that all work packages comply with applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures.

Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of computerized work management systems.
- Understanding of Asset Management concepts and systems.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to schedule, prioritize and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
