Coordinator, Medical Services/Coordonnateur du bureau du directeur medical

Under the direction of the Medical Director, the incumbent coordinators the safe, efficient, timely and cost effective administration of the Medical Services and/or Lookback/Traceback Programs in the medical office.  The incumbent serves as internal point of contact for health care professionals and others contacting medical Services. The incumbent liaises with physicians and the public regarding donors, directed/autologous programs and other blood programs.  The incumbent delivers educational sessions to department staff, as required.  The incumbent prepares regular program reports and statistics.  All activities are performed in accordance with all regulatory requirements, Canadian Blood Services’ policies, procedures and practices.

  • Manages the safe, efficient, timely and cost-effective administration of the Medical Services and Lookback/Traceback Programs, including inventory retrievals and donor notification and adverse reaction follow-up.

  • Coordinates the human and material resources for the Medical Services area of the Office of the Medical Director.

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of departmental and some external training programs, including OH&S programs.

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of departmental quality assurance programs.

  • Prepares and administers the annual budget for the Medical Services area of the Office of the Medical Director.

  • Provide support in the medical office.


Required Skills:

  • Post secondary level education from a recognized academic institution with training in related health care or life sciences field, or business related field.

  • Five years experience, including two years recent supervisory experience.

  • A member in good standing of a College for health care professionals.

  • Knowledge of transmissible diseases/testing a definite asset.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize the workload are essential.

  • Leadership and supervisory skills are required.

  • Accuracy with attention to detail is required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.

  • Strong reading comprehension skills are required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

  • Computer literacy is essential with skills including proficiency in word processing and database programs is a definite asset.

  • The ability to generalize and conceptualize ideas and information and to utilize and adapt technical/administrative processes on the basis of a broad understanding of principles, practices and procedures.

  • The majority of work involves selecting and adapting methods for specific situations and interpreting standard techniques, practices and/or policies and procedures, including modifying and refining concepts, ideas or methods to improve existing services, product processes and policies.

  • Off-site travel may be required for short and/or extended periods of time.
