Journeyman Carpenter/Assistant Site Supervisor
Location: Olds, Alberta
Primary Function
The journeyman carpenter/assistant site supervisor will be part of a dynamic project team and will report directly to the Site Superintendent. The successful candidate will collaborate with our Director of Construction, Project Analyst, and Sub-Contractors to successfully complete project requirements safely, on schedule and within budget, ensuring the quality of all work performed is to the highest of standards.
Basic Job functions
- Knowledge of Commercial construction (hotel and restaurant), practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety.
- Proficient at the following tasks: rough and finish carpentry, framing, knowledge of concrete work, millwork.
- Able to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Adept at establishing relationships with all parties involved in the construction process that facilitate harmonious working relationships during project, and permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur.
- Able to organize assigned tasks, for completion alone or with help.
- Able to complete and fulfill paperwork required for the position, such as safety inspections, daily site reports, time sheets, etc.
- Able to help lead weekly progress meetings with subcontract foreman
- Monitoring compliance with the Pomeroy Group Health and safety program and the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code and Regulations
- Able to help investigate workplace incidents, ensuring all documentation is complete and forwarded to the Director of Construction or Project Manager
- Inspect work areas to ensure equipment, materials, and processes do not present a safety or health hazard.
- Create and maintain a safety culture with colleagues and sub-contractors.
- Help research, prepare and offer the necessary safety talks and meetings.
- Ensuring all jobs are complete in accordance with the established quality and building specifications.
- Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings
- Maintain cleanliness of construction site
- Able to take on responsibility for the building site in the absence of the Site Superintendent
Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 or equivalent driver’s license
- Clear and precise verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate a personal commitment and positive attitude toward workplace
- health and safety
- High degree of accuracy and attention to details
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks
- Understanding of all rules, regulations, policies and procedures that apply to General Construction
- Computer proficiency including MS Office
- The person will have a minimum of 3 - 5 years of construction experience in large commercial projects, preferably in hotels and restaurants.
