Cenovus has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Water Treatment Process Engineer to work with their Capital Project Process Engineering Team dedicated to the Foster Creek Commercial Facility Expansion projects. The current Foster Creek plant produces over 100,000 bbl/day of oil and the Phase FGH Expansion will double this capacity over the next 6 years.

 

The Function

In this key role, you will be reporting to the Phase FGH Process Lead and will be responsible for providing support for the water treatment and steam generation systems. This role heavily involves interface with the capital projects group, Engineering companies, Calgary and Site process engineers.

 

The successful candidate must possess a solid background in process engineering fundamentals, such as: process design basis development, process simulations, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations, vessel sizing, pump calculations, relief loading calculations, control valve sizing, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), line lists, control philosophies, Shutdown Keys (SDKs), process optimization/troubleshooting at the plants and well pads, process safety and applicable codes & standards (including regulatory). As the successful candidate, you must be ethical, have the ability to make decisions and possess strong technical, communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills. You must be a team player and capable of working with and collaborating with different groups.

 

-work closely with the FGH Project group and the engineering companies executing the FGH Expansion projects

-contribute to the development of the process engineering DBMs (and compliance to the DBMs) for Foster Creek expansion projects

-contribute to the development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Line Lists, Control Philosophies, Shutdown Keys (SDKs) for Foster Creek Expansion projects

-review the sizing of equipment and instrumentation for the projects

-participate in design and HAZOP reviews for the projects

-check that project design meets safety requirements, compliance with Cenovus and industry recommended practices/codes, process functionality

-contribute to and support project specific regulatory requirements

-provide process support to the Ready for Operations Team (RFO) during commissioning

-provide process support to the Cenovus’ Thermal Recovery specifications

-collaborate with operations process engineers to ensure key lessons learned from existing facility are evaluated and captured in future expansion based on severity/risk of hazard

-be accountable for your responsibilities and objectives

 

The Individual

-professional Engineer sanctioned by APEGGA

-minimum of 8-10 years related experience

-solid background in process engineering fundamentals

-strong knowledge of ASME B31.3 & B31.1, ASME VIII Div 1, API 520 & 521, CSA Z662, ERCB/AENV -directives/regulations/acts

-strong technical, troubleshooting, communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills

-background in the SAGD process is an asset

-background in facilities water treatment is an asset

-water treatment experience would be considered an asset

-competent with HYSYS

-team Player/capable of working with different teams

-strong ethics

-capable of working in a fast paced environment and schedule driven project

-competent with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

-willing to travel to Foster Creek site (near Bonnyville, Alberta) on an occasional basis
