Job Description
Reporting directly to the Laboratory Supervisors for Component Production, the Laboratory Attendant in the Manufacturing area of the Laboratory performs functions related to the preparation and storage of blood and blood components in accordance with all regulatory and Canadian Blood Services policies, procedures and practices. This position involves weekend and shift work.
- Receive, assess and produce whole blood and apheresis platelets and plasma into requested blood components.
- Preparation and storage of blood components.
- End label and store blood components.
- Performs bacterial detection.
- Performs other Laboratory duties as required.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum one year relevant laboratory experience is preferred.
- Post Secondary courses in sciences preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential; legible handwriting required.
- Superior multi-tasking skills required.
- Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment as well as independently.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions precisely, prepare and maintain accurate records, and carry out repetitive tasks in a meticulous manner.
- Capable of working in a highly regulated environment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job required including manual dexterity (must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift and carry boxes/cartons of up to 10kg).

Additional Information
These 2 casual positions will be regularly scheduled for full-time hours until 2011-10-31. All hours are flexible as assigned and can include shift work.
