Electrical Engineer Edmonton 03LM1103
The Electrical Engineer is primarily responsible to work with the Engineering group to design and develop electrical systems and/or components for oil & gas, mining and modular clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs power system calculations including load flow, short circuit, voltage profile and motor starting calculations.
Performs single and three line diagrams, control systems, electrical equipment insulation coordination and sizing; including transformer, switchgear, motor control center, circuit breaker, power plant electrical auxiliary equipment sizing and design, generator/transformer neutral grounding, as well as plant grounding and lightning protection calculations, design and engineering.
Performs equipment specification and design review, plus support field operations on installation and commissioning.
Proposes modifications and retesting if required.
Plans and manages electrical projects for the Engineering group.
Provides technical assistance and recommendations for proper operations and design of electrical installations.
Prepares documentation and drawing packages required for the construction of oil and gas, mining and modular facilities.
Discusses reviews and interprets plans and specifications.
Reviews documents and reconciles discrepancies; makes needed adjustments.
Coordinates and/or acts as a liaison between agencies, clients, work units, suppliers etc.
Coordinates the activities or tasks of team members and provides assistance and mentorship to a team of electrical designers and CAD operators.
Works with management to implement effective and productive task methods/procedures.
Prepares ARC Flash and Fugitive Emissions Studies.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local regulations and standards.
Keeps informed on new related technologies and methods.
Complies with standards and procedures of the company’s Health & Safety Manual and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Bachelor of Sciences Degree majoring in Electrical Engineering.
Familiarity with international and local standards IEC, CEC, ANSI, IEEE codes & CSA.
Progressive design and site experience in one or more of the following areas: HV substation design, MV and LV distribution system design, large industrial plant electrical systems.
Ability to read design specifications and technical drawings.
Project planning and cost estimating experience.
Report preparation experience.
Ability to estimate sizes, distances, quantities, and determine time, costs, resources and/or materials for electrical installations.
Ability to take initiative, set priorities and produce an industry standard electrical drawing package efficiently.
Exceptional time-management skills; ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks quickly.
Field experience in the oil and gas industries would be an asset; but not necessarily a requirement.
E-tap experience would be an asset.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
Ability to deal with people in a manner which shows tact and professionalism.
Capability to perform advanced mathematical calculations using Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and Statistics to solve problems.
Ability to speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally.
Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS REQUIRED
Must have own vehicle as location is not accessible with public transportation.
