The role is General Manager to run the Cladding division . They are looking for someone to run the division from top to bottom from a profit and loss basis , operation and production, project execution .

The company them selves have been around for over 80 years and turnover in excess of $1.5 billion a year , the work across all sectors in construction with the majority in public sector work like schools, hospitals, roads, bridges , they also have a heavy industrial division as well as a Major project division that will do the big design/build P3 projects . Generally speaking they do projects up to $300million but have been known to do bigger ones on a joint venture basis

The base salary will be dependant on the individual in addition to the share options they offer full benefits for the candidate and family which start straight away, profit sharing/bonus ,company truck or allowance , 5% RSP Employer matching contribution.

They also have an investment arm in addition to all of this , the way this works is that if you want to invest into a particular project i.e become a stake holder then you can do . However they only do this on the very large projects like the P3 and generally speaking into the public sector work like schools ,hospitals, government buildings , roads and highways where the can guarantee getting paid but where they can do it on a construct /manage/operate and maintain basis to maximize on reward



PRIMAR Y FUNCTION

 

1.         The Cladding Manager is responsible for planning, management and profitability of the Cladding Operation.  Accountabilities include winning and executing projects, staffing for projects, and other managerial functions, dispute resolution and success. Ultimately responsible for managing Operations people and resources, and the profit/loss performance of the Operations.

2.         Plans, organizes and directs all department activities at the Operations Unit level, responsible for achievement of overall corporate objectives at the department level.

3.         Provides technical and administrative expertise and support for specific cladding operations.

 

 

 

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

 

General Responsibilities

1.         Financial responsibility for achieving the Operations Financial business plan (with the guidance of the District Manager and/or VP).  Achieving positive operating statements and performance graphs having goals and targets, as per corporate strategic guidelines.  Manage and report using The Company’s Toolbox Project Administration.

2.         Accountable for achieving Operation business plans (and action plans), people, markets, and development.

3.         Assisting District Manager and/or VP in completion of one year and multi year planning.

4.         Hire, coach/mentor, provide direction, and review the performance of Operations Unit staff.

5.         Plan, organize and staff key office and field positions to support overall department goals and objectives.

6.         Responsible for personnel transactions such as: performance reviews, wage increases, recommends transfers, promotions and deselection and the like for the Operations Unit.  The Cladding Manager will work with the guidance of the District Manager and/or VP and the corporate policies, guidelines and practices for deselection of non-performing project staff.

7.         Continuous monitoring and assessing the performance of the project and the Project Manager’s, Estimators and Superintendents.

8.         Assigning resources to projects to optimize utilization of office and field staff.

9.         Assist in securing new work by participating in estimates: working with owners/ prime contractors and/or participating in proposals and presentations.

10.        Review and approval all Cladding Unit tender submissions.

11.        Recommend: Bid-No Bid: To District Manager and/or VP.

12.        Review and negotiate contracts:  Liaise with District Manager and/or VP and legal counsel as appropriate.

13.        Ensure quality in all work for clients, by Company personnel and subcontractors, maintain contact with all clients as appropriate.

14.        Review each project’s weekly production, monthly cost and schedule with the project manager as the project proceeds.  More detail may be required on higher risk projects.

15.        Resolve any disputes between the Company and client, or Company and subcontractors that the project manager is unable to resolve.  Liaise with District Manager and/or VP as appropriate.

16.        Lead in compiling major claims.

17.        Overseeing project close-out.

18.        Reviewing all Operations labor cost reports and forecasts; looking for early warning signs of trouble, developing plans and implements action to improve project outcomes.

19.        Compile monthly Operations reports to District Manager.

20.        Monthly review with Project Managers of all operations projects.  Project cost analysis and forecasted costs.  Operations Manager signs off on margin forecast utilizing The Company’s Toolbox Project Administration.

21.        Recommend project margin flows to District Manager on monthly basis utilizing The Company’s Project Administration.

22.        Review and monitor Operations Unit status and progress on a quarterly basis.  Quarterly report to Area Vice President.

23.        Marketing to new & existing clients. Fully understand Cladding market trends and adjust accordingly.

24.        Being an ambassador of the company both internally and externally.

25.        Promoting and supporting Operations safety.  Maintaining The Groups and OH&S safety standards, adhering to policy.

26.        Assist the District Manager to do whatever is required to make the Operations Unit successful.

27.        Participate in the Cladding Industry, through Association involvement, or the like.

28.        Assume additional responsibilities as directed by District Manager or Area Divisional Vice President.

29.        Position highly visible to staff and customers and requires ability to influence/persuade.  Quality of effort can greatly impact corporate image and workload.

 

 

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE

 

Skills

1.         Demonstrated ability to lead Level 3 organization - attract, hire, develop and maintain a team of Superintendents, project managers and senior project managers. Work with estimating teams and finalize tender content and value.

2.         Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

3.         Must possess excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.

4.         Must have technical knowledge of installation of Metal Cladding and Siding and the ability to understand good workmanship

5.         Must have detailed knowledge if material and labor costing for Metal siding and panel

 

Knowledge

1.          Thorough knowledge of corporate procedures and policies is requisite.

 

Qualifications and Education

1.          Preference shall be based on the candidates qualifications, education and experience.

 

Experience

1.         Ten or more years in construction estimating, project management & office environment supervision .

2.          Understanding of Cladding procedures, products, installation sequence and productivity.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

1.         Cladding Manager works at Organizational Level 3 or 4 based on Experience and Education.

2.         Reporting to the District Manager or VP Level 4, or level 5.

3.         Cross-functional collaboration: Level 3/4 equivalent; Chief Estimator; Construction Manager, Branch Accountant, Area Safety, District Manger, General Manager, etc.
