Description:

 

We are currently looking to fill one full time Operations Shift Supervisor position for our client’s new plant. This is a coal-fired thermal electric power generating station that will use supercritical boiler technology to provide improved environmental performance.

 

Reporting to the Operations Representative, this position will initially focus on supporting the development of mobilization plans for staffing, training, procedure development, LOTO, EH&S and other operational and business processes required to meet the deliverables of this new plant.

 

As a front line supervisor, this role will be actively involved in training, coaching, and the supervision of a functional group of Power Engineers. This role requires a strong focus on safety, operational proficiency, and adherence to project goals and schedules.

 

 









Responsibilities:


  • Develop, plan and incorporate safety in all activities and behaviors - aligned to meet Target Zero objectives.

  • Assist in the selection of staff required.

  • Support the development and implementation of relevant training for the safe operation and maintenance of the facility.

  • Develop operational PMs' which lead to the creation of an Operation's PM program.

  • Develop Operating procedures and Operating Instructions.

  • Provide operating expertise as required to project stakeholders.

  • Prepare and submit equipment operational update reports when required.

  • Manage staffing issues within the functional operation team, including daily supervision, recruitment, employee performance and interpretation and application of the collective agreement.

  • Manage training and development within the functional team, including ensuring that training needs are identified, appropriate training is implemented and that the expected results are realized.

  • Ensure employees adhere to policies and procedures, operational standards, safe work planning process and maintenance strategies.

  • Manage the Company's and applicable legislative standards, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance.

  • Manage work relationships with other departments and key stakeholders both internally and externally to ensure operational goals and objectives are achieved effectively.

  • Communicate in a timely and relevant manner to ensure commissioning progress is clearly communicated.

  • Effectively manage administrative duties e.g. meetings, reports, time cards, expenses, etc.



 

Qualifications:

 

  • Alberta Second (2nd) Class or First (1st) Class Power Engineer's Certificate

  • 3 to 5 years of plant supervisory experience in a large industrial facility

  • Experience as a 2nd class Shift Supervisor or Assistant Shift Engineer would be an asset.  A combination of experience and relevant education will also be considered.

  • Excellent leadership skills & ability to manage employee performance

  • Must have a strong commitment to safe work practices/performance

  • Strong Communication Skills

  • Excellent Resource Management & planning capabilities to reach goals.
