Database Administrator
Magna Electric Corporation (MEC), with office locations in Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg currently employs 300+ Engineers, Technologists, Electricians and office staff. MEC offers full electrical engineering consulting and design, substation construction, shop services, transformer services, switchgear solutions and training. MEC has been a preferred supplier for more than two decades for clients in the mining, oil and gas, utility, steel, and pulp and paper industries across Canada, the United States and in select International markets.
MEC is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to joinour Winnipeg Operations team as a Database Administrator. The position is a full time, temporary posting or contract basis dependent on project completion.
The Database Administrator is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining corporate databases. This includes the creation of all plans for ensuring data consistency, definitions, security, and usability. The Database Administrator is also responsible for coding or implementing associated systems and applications software, as well as diagnosing and resolving database performance issues to ensure optimal database performance.
Qualified applicants must possess:
- University degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, or computer engineering;a combination of education and experience will be considered
- 2+ years of direct experience with database creation, administration and maintenance,
- Advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Access and Excel
- Demonstrated knowledge of database design and analysis, client-server architecture, and data modeling
- Strong knowledge of database performing tuning, backup, recovery, storage management, methodologies, processes, and tools
- Practical knowledge of database replication strategies
- Able to interpret the operational requirements of end users, project managers, and other stakeholders
- Ability to write concise and accurate technical documentation throughout database development projects
- Ability to troubleshoot programming changes, errors, and subsequent modifications
- Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team, as well as independently
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Self-starter and highly motivated to make proactive changes
- Effective deadline management and project management skills
- Highly effective communication skills, written and verbal
- A strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in all areas of work
